SPORTS AND YOUTH AFFAIRS
Introduction
The government of Sikkim created a full-fledged Department of Sports and Youth Affairs on 10th March 1995. Earlier it operated under Education department as Directorate of Sports.
OBJECTIVES:
- To facilitate the development of Game, Sports and Youth Activities.
- To create Sports Infrastructures and to nourish talents for achieving excellence in various competitive events.
- Granting of Aid and technical assistance to various Sports Associations and Clubs.
- Promote Youth festivals for showcasing rich culture of state and Adventure sports for inculcating fitness, independency, and awareness thereby promotion of Sports tourism in state.
INFRASTRUCTURE:
- With creation of Pakyong District in 2022 the District Sports Office was also established with functional office housed at old JNV School below community Hall from 23RD MAY 2022.
- District office intends to work on improving the school sports, promotion and development of various sports disciplines and training of technical sports human resources.
DISTRICT U-14 BOYS & GIRLS FOOTBALL COMPETITIONS.
- Pakyong district Sports & Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with District administration had conducted U- 14 Boys Inter school football tournament last Year.
- The final round was merged with Independence football competition which received overwhelming response from schools.
- From this year along with U-14 Boys & U-17 Girls will be conducted annually by department with collaboration of DAC Pakyong as a part of Independence Day celebration.
