INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS (IPR) DEPARTMENT

Introduction

The Pakyong office of the Department of Information and Public Relations was established in April 2022.
The IPR Department, the nodal department of the State Government- the interface between the government and the media plays a pivotal role in keeping the general public abreast of day-to-day events, activities, policies, programmes, initiatives and achievements of the State Government. It is also responsible for formulating a media policy for the state and ensures correct dissemination of information.

INFRASTRUCTURE:

Currently, the office is running in two rooms at the DAC premises.

MANPOWER:

  1. Deeki D. Bhutia             –              District Information Officer
  2. Amika Bagdas               –              Senior Information Assistant
  3. Samdup Lepcha            –              Cameraperson

ACTIVITIES:

All the programmes we were invited to have been covered by the department, and we have also been releasing press releases to the private media in addition to sharing the information on our media page and through other means. And the Sikkim Herald has also reported the facts.
We have been welcoming State Guests together with other officials because the state has seen several arrivals of VVIPs who enter the state through Rangpo, which is located in the Pakyong district.

  1. April, 2022: 16 (sixteen) members of Parliament visited Pakyong district.
  2. November, 2022: Hon’ble President of India virtually inaugurated the Atal Setu Bridge.

November, 2022   : Union Minister for State for External Affairs and Education Dr.Rajkumar Ranjan Singh visit to various venues of Pakyong district.

  1. January, 2023: The inter-ministerial Central team visit to take account of the deplorable conditions of landslide affected areas of Changey Senti and Lal Turning.
  2. February, 2023: Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Government of India visited SMU Technology Incubation Foundation.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Despite lack of personnel, the department was able to successfully cover the Panchayat Election of 2022 and finish all the responsibilities. Token of Appreciation was given by the Gram Prashashan Kendra.

ROADMAP for 2023-2024:

IPR Pakyong is planning to start ‘PTC- PIECE to CAMERA’, during the important events in the district. PTC which can be a crucial part of media is a recorded clip in which the reporter who is present at the location speaks directly to the camera.
